Computer challenge

I am frustrated at times with the lack of computer lab time. I wanted to do more editing with my regular ninth graders in a computer lab using Microsoft Word during our writing of the Freshmen persuasuve essay, but alas everyone has signed up for my days! Just needed to vent; maybe the higher powers are really telling me to get on the Writely ban wagon. Alright, I am better now.

WHEN ARE THE THOSE NEW LAPTOPS COMING? Obviously not soon enough. Hang in there>

That computer lab's harder to get into than a Neil Diamond concert. And I would know!

I have a possible solution for you. Do you think you could accomplish what you needed to accomplish with Microsoft Word on Macs? I know it's a slightly earlier version - and obviously much older computers - but I think the Reviewing Toolbar has the two main things you are using - comments and highlighting.

If so, you have two possibilities. One is W203 - which is generally available for signup on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Since English 9 is 5 days a week, you might be able to find a time that science hasn't signed up for it that fits into your schedule.

The second possibility is C17. You would obviously have to work out switching rooms for the day(s) with the teacher that is in there but, unless they are using the computers that day, I don't see that being a problem in your wonderfully collegial department.

If you think you might be interested, we could sit down and look at the Reviewing Toolbar in Word 2001 for the Mac and see if it does what you want, then pursue the rooms.

Oh, and Kristin, maybe if you planned in advance you could sign up for the computer lab for a September morn.

I'll take responsibility, since I think Brian and I tied for being first to sign up for the Dell lab. It would be nice to have more flexibility with all of this.
